Well I am very busy at MP3.com. I tried working a little bit for the San Francisco startup company too but I think I will be giving that up. Too disconnected to really be a part of the company.

For MP3.com I was hired to do internationalization of the website. Right now I am working on an installation for brand new users of our site, so new people to our site can easily install an MP3 player to their computer. Also I will be helping with work on a new publishing model for the website.

I really miss San Francisco. I get depressed in San Diego sometimes. I keep telling myself that I can always go back to San Francisco later. The work in San Diego is lots of fun as well as there being many musical opportunities, so I will stick it out in San Diego as long as I can. In addition to the fun work, the people are nice. People seem more detached from each other here than in the SF Bay Area. A bit more separation. I do prefer the happy closeness and open people of San Francisco but I am sure it is just a matter of time before I meet people like that down here as well.

My stuff from San Francisco will be arriving tomorrow. The moving service I used was pretty good. They were able to come over and pack all of my things the day after I called them. Maybe living in my new apartment with all of my things will make me feel better, more like I have a truly personal space. I am currently staying in corporate housing which feels sterile and not really a comforting place, even though it is a very nice studio room with a kitchen and everything.

A lot of people living in San Diego are from Texas. I thought that was interesting.

As much as I get depressed I am also very excited about being in a new place. So many new things to experience and try.

Last week I went surfing for the first time, and the first wave I caught, I actually was able to stand up! Surfing is so much fun. I just could not slap the smile off of my face.

On Friday night I went out to the desert with some work people to attend my first Southern California Rave. The sky was so clear we could see all the stars in the sky . There were lots of shooting stars too since we were in a perseids meteor shower phase. Watching the sun rise in the morning from the top of the hills was beautiful. As for the music, the Jungle area was lower energy than I like. In the regular area I caught Terry Mullen spinning. Absolutely bad-ass set. I learned quick beatmatch zeroing in, how to make sure the mix out to the people is as right on as it sounds in the headphones and monitor speakers. Sneak in the bass, snap in the highs, use the cut-off if you want to avoid beat doubling.

Today I am working in a new building with MP3.com. We all moved over the weekend. It is too bad I had already sold my car. It looks like to get anywhere in San Diego, I will have to drive. I am currently getting by with the buses, skateboard, and bike. I did get hit by a car my first week on bike. That was not much fun. I I was hit from behind which ruined my back wheel. My right arm was badly scraped. No bones broken though.
